Highland Womens Captain Amy Brown was pleased with the “cohesion” and “intensity” her side played with to win the first leg of the new Two P’s Cup fixture versus Lochaber.
On Saturday, the sides met in an Arnold Clark Women’s Caledonia North One clash at Canal Park.
There is a long-standing competition between Highland and Lochaber men for the Two Ronnies Cup which was set up between Ronnie Bremner and Ronnie Young.
And now former Highland president Graham Findlater and ex-Lochaber president Charlie Donaldson have set up the women’s Two P’s Cup named after their wives Patsy and Pauline.
This game was the first leg of the 2025-26 playing of the fixture - the second leg is due to be played on November 15 at Lochaber - and Highland have one hand on the trophy after a 52-0 victory here.
Elle Briggs led the way with a try hat-trick and Lis Lawson, Mhairi Docherty, Lexi McLeman (2) and Alaina MacLennan scored tries with Lorna Young converting six of them for the hosts.
“Both teams braved the challenge of Storm Amy and were eager to get on the pitch and play some rugby,” scrum-half Brown, who was named player of the match, said.
“What followed was a fantastic display from both sides showcasing real grit, determination and sportsmanship.
“After a slightly slow start, we began to build momentum with the players showing great skill and cohesion in attack. We scored a wide variety of tries across different areas of the pitch, demonstrating both flair and structure in our play.
“Defensively we came together as a unit, maintaining high pressure and intensity throughout the match. Lochaber, to their credit, never gave up and came close to scoring in the final five minutes. However, a determined defensive effort from us kept them out.
“Huge credit must go to Lochaber for making the journey in such tough conditions and for battling right to the final whistle.”
The result puts Highland top of the six-team standings, but they have played a game more than second placed Aberdeenshire QuinesLochaber are in fourth place.
This coming Saturday 11th Oct there is set to be a full card of fixtures in the Womens Caledonia North League Division 1.
Highland are hosting local rivals Inverness Craig Dunain at Canal Park with a 2pm Kick Off.
