Dundee Rugby 19-43 Highland RFC

In Arnold Clark National Two, our Highland Men's 1XV are still unbeaten, and are now top of the table after they scored seven tries in a 43-19 bonus point away win at Dundee Rugby on Saturday (4th October).

We travelled down to Mayfield with three five-point wins out of three already in the bag and the team made it four this time around. With GHK’s home match with Howe of Fife postponed it means that the Canal Park men are at the summit of the 10-team league, but there is plenty of rugby to come.

After playing into a strong wind in the first half, Highland went in tied at 12-12 at the break with tries coming from Magnus Henry and Neori Vuetiyaroi and co-captain Scott Fraser converting one.

Highland then started the second half strongly with two tries, one from former Dundee player Andrew Denver and the other Freddie Riddle both on debut. One of them was converted by Scott Fraser and the visitors were 24-12 up.

“We seemed to think the game was won and switched off a bit though which gave Dundee a good 15-minute spell where they got a converted try to make it 24-19,” Highland head coach Dave Carson said.

“But fair play to the team who got it back together to finish strongly with three tries, a second from Freddie, one from Roddy Thomson and one from Cal Macpherson getting the last and Scott Fraser converting two of them as it finished 43-19.

“Overall, it was another really pleasing performance on the road with a bonus point with the two new lads getting on the scoresheet which has given us more depth which is great.

“We are looking forward to getting back to Canal Park this coming Saturday, 11th October,  when we welcome Peebles. We would love to see the balcony full for the 3pm Kick off. ”

Dundee scored tries through Paul Ritch, Marcus van der Esch and Daniel Dixon while Ewan Fox and Matt Tait kicked conversions.

Freddie Riddle (left) and Andrew Denver (right) both made try scoring debuts for the 1st XV against Dundee Rugby on Saturday.
