Highland uprising continues - what a story!
Highland RFC Women v Hillhead Jordanhill RFC Women 2XV
Sunday 16th April 2023
Kick Off 14:00
It’s worth remembering that the clubs Womens rugby section launched this season with around half a dozen hardy souls back in Summer 2022.
Here we are around eight months later to find them with a large squad looking forward to a home National Bowl semi-final on Sunday 16th April – the first proper competition they have entered.
They have put in all the hard work to draw friends and family into the game and grow the squad. They have put in the hard work you would expect at training – no matter what the weather.
With numbers increasing they got involved in the Womens Aspiring League a brand-new non-competitive league programme for women and girls. The Aspiring League was established by Scottish Rugby designed to support players progress and improve their skills as growing numbers came to rugby.
After all there’s no point doing all the training if you don’t get the chance to play the game and put into practice what you have learned. With numbers and confidence growing at Highland there was a need for competitive rugby – driven by the team themselves. Next step the National Bowl to test themselves.
Three handsome wins against Stornoway, Perthshire, & Bannockburn found the team topping Pool A and waiting confirmation of their opponents in the semi – just one step away from a final at Murrayfield. They’ve done it all in great spirits and have proved they are truly a credit to the club.
So we now know our opponents will be Hillhead Jordanhill Women 2nd XV who topped Pool B. Hillhead Jordanhill have been at the forefront of Womens Rugby in Scotland for some time and we can’t wait to welcome them to Canal Park.
Our women deserve our support – so lets get as many people along as possible to support them. Come on we can Fill The Balcony!
