1st XV maintain form in the sun at home

The good news is that you don’t have to put up with my lack of writing skills this week. They say a picture paints a thousand words and a crayon sketch would be better than my ramblings.

It was a home game, so thanks to Core Broadcasting we have the highlights package below, or if you have time click on full game to watch a re-run of whole game.

Suffice to say that everyone was pretty pleased with running in 7 tries against one of the opening days big winners. Especially pleasing to Coach Davie Carson was the fact that the defence prevented the Edinburgh side from scoring.

Everyone did their part, with the pack winning their set piece and carrying hard in the loose. Rory Mighton put in a great shift and got around the park well. The back row were a force to be reckoned with all game. No. 7 Gordon Gregor to the fore on both sides of the ball.

Hugo Crush was industrious looking to boss his forwards around the park, sniping, and supporting well throughout.

Rupeni Rokoduguni and Jack Sutherand worked well together in midfield.

Magnus Henry was tireless in his chasing, tackling, going looking for work, and always being a threat when carrying.

Raptors downed by Moray in last minute.

Moray RFC 27-24 Highland 2XV

I haven’t got a report on this game at this point, the score suggests it’s the latest of a long series of really competitive games between these two teams.

However, I understand Highland were leading going into the closing stages of the game.

Highland conceded four penalties in a row to give Moray the field position that allowed them to score and take the win away from the Raptors. Something that will undoubtedly concern coach Blair Lockwood.

Next Game: Sat 16th Sept, v RAF Lossiemouth, Canal Park, INVERNESS, KO 3pm

Sea Eagles put dampener on Skye Rugby

Skye Rugby 5-38 Highland 3XV

Skye Rugby were another team making their League debut on Saturday, when they hosted the Sea Eagles at Plockton High School.

The Highland payers travelled without coaches this weekend due to work commitments, so I don’t have a match report for this game.

Skye Rugby had a few teething problems – their post protectors went A.W.O.L. so  we took some down on the bus.

Then there was an SOS sent out because it turned out that the showers at the High School weren’t working. I’ve no idea how that worked out – but they’re were a few suggestions that. a swim in the bay could double up as a wash and an ice bath!!

Just the sort of thing rugby stories are made off.

Next Game: Sat 16th Sept, Ross Sutherland, Naval Grounds, INVERGORDON, KO 3pm
