League rugby debut for Highland's Women's team
Congratulations to our Highland Women’s team on making their league rugby debut at Moray RFC, Morriston Park, ELGIN, yesterday, Sat 9th Sept 2023.
Congrats to Moray Women who were also making league their debut, in this Caledonia North League Division 2 fixture.
On a historic day for both teams Highland ran out winners with the final score being:
Moray Women 18-55 Highland Women
Coach Brian Crush reported
“Everybody played brilliantly in very hot conditions, Sara Johnston got her first start on the wing and looked very confident.
Amy Brown, captaining the side also put in a big performance and was awarded joint player of the match with Michaela Munro, also starting her first full game. Who run in her two tries from a long way out at number 13.
Caitlin Holland was controlling everything at 10 with some clever kicks, turning the opposition and accurate passing. Lauren Parkes took the ball up hard at 12 giving us plenty of go forward. Before moving to 10 for the injured Caitlin (elbow).
Set piece was solid, with Ellen Mathewson, Abigail McMillan and Lauren Evans, a threat at 7,6 and 8. With Susanna MacDonald coming on later and doing what she does! Running hard at Moray knocking players over.
Front row all got around the park carrying hard.
The team were delighted to get our season off to a winning start away from home after the disappointment of a walk over result last week.
I’m sure everyone will join me in wishing Caitlin Hollands a speedy recovery from her injury.
The team also have new strip sponsors this year and we have to extend a massive thank you to
Robust Physiotherapy, Black Isle Beds, HSS ProService, M&H Carriers and Inverness Paving
