Busy Weekend at Canal Park
The Men’s 3XV and Ladies 1XV don’t have games this weekend.
However, the Men’s 1XV, 2XV, and Highland Eagles U18 Boys are all playing at home, and the Highland Falcons U18 Boys have an away game at Lochaber RFC.
So the club house will be busy with our fantastic supporters, our hospitality guests, and 6 teams going about their rugby on what is our Christmas Jumper Day – so look out those ugly jumpers!
The 1st XV take on Jed-Forest RFC on their first visit to Canal Park.
Our lads will be looking to use home advantage to get a vital win, but they know they face a tough task playing against a Jed team that has only grown in confidence since Jed’s narrow 28-21 win down at Riverside Park back in September.
Both teams lost last week, Highland going down 42-13 to league leaders GHA down at Braidholm, whilst Jed lost 7-18 at home to Gala.
The top three teams in National 1, GHA, Stirling, and Glasgow Accies, have created a bit of a gap at the top of the table, and Dundee are in danger of losing touch at the bottom – but they are not out of race for survival yet.
Everyone else is jockeying for position and are desperate not to be stuck in the wrong seat when the music stops at the end of the season. Only 9 points separates 4th placed Gala from Boroughmuir in 9th place in the league, and with three teams being relegated this year there’s a real battle developing to stay out of the danger zone. So this is a vitally important game for both sides. Let’s fill the balcony and the pitch side with as many folk as possible to give your support to the lads.
GAME KO : 3:00pm
The 2XV Raptors take on Caithness RFC also at Canal Park.
The Raptors sit slap bang in the middle of the 7 team Caledonia North League Division 1 table on 18pts, just 8pts behind league leaders Mackie RFC who have played 2 games more. Their opponents this weekend are Caithness RFC who currently lie at the bottom of the table – but they are within touching distance of the teams above them in another tightly contested league.
The 2XV lost up in Caithness at the start of the season and they will be looking for a bit of payback in what will be their first run out since they beat Ellon on the 19th October. Having said that Caithness last game was a loss to leaders Mackie only a weeks later – so both teams may be suffering a bit of rustiness.
GAME KO : 2:00pm
Highland Eagles Boys U18 face old foes Dundee Rugby.
The Eagles will be looking to do a double by beating their Dundee rivals at home in this Inter Conference Challenge match, having won 17-21 down in Dundee in their National 2 Club Conference game. This is looking like it will be a very competitive game between two good sides, and will provide an excellent curtain raiser ahead of the 1st XV game. So if you can come along and give our youngsters some support.
GAME KO : 12:30pm
Highland Falcons Boys U18 head to Lochaber.
The health of our Boys section means we have another U18 team heading down the road to Banavie to take on their Lochaber counterparts. If you are in the area and can make it along the guys would appreciate the support.
