Enhancing Player Welfare: The Importance of First Aid Training
At our club, we are committed to player welfare. To ensure the safety of all our players, both senior and junior, we need first aiders across all our teams. This is especially important for our away games.
Injuries are an inevitable part of any contact sport. However, the outcome of many injuries can be significantly improved with basic first aid skills provided by bystanders until emergency help arrives.
Scottish Rugby 🏴🏉 has launched a brand new SCRUMCAPS First Aid course, aimed at delivering more Level 1 courses nationwide as part it’s commitment to improving Player Welfare.
The new course consists of 3 modules with a blend of online and in person learning. The second module, a face to face session lasting no more than 3 ½ hours, will be delivered locally at rugby clubs across the country. This local delivery makes completion of the course accessible to a wider audience.
To access the courses and create a record of your learning, you will need to register on SCRUMS (unless you are already registered). Candidates must be at least 14 years of age before they can register for the course / qualification.
🗣The course is suitable for anyone who is taking on the role of first aider for a team and requires NO previous healthcare or first aid knowledge.
So it can be taken by coaches, match officials, players and volunteers.

PLEASE NOTE – all three of the following online modules MUST be completed before you can book a place on one of the practical courses to be held around the country.

- First Responder (online)
- SCRUMCAPS First Aid level 1: Module 1 (online)
* This is the same as RugbyRight 2023/24: Concussion so some candidates may have already completed this element.
